Police in Tanzania's Tabora district hold four nurses suspected of participating in an organ trafficking network.
According to Tabora regional commissioner Batilda Buriani, the four were apprehended when investigators discovered that the remains of prematurely born twins had been mangled after they died.
He stated that the twins' mother discovered their eyeballs gouged out and part of their skin pulled off from the brow.
According to Buriani, the nurses have been suspended and will face charges of organ harvesting.
The commissioner stated that organ harvesting had been related to witchcraft.

The nurses are also accused of fabricating evidence that the bodies were kept in the maternity unit when discovered in the nurses' room.
According to the examining committee, the twins died due to a shortage of newborn care services at the facility where they were born.
