Raila Odinga, the head of the opposition, said on Monday that President William Ruto's government is "too shady" for him to enter into a political truce similar to the one he struck with retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 9, 2018.
Raila said he consented to bipartisan negotiations at the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference (NDC) called by Kenyatta at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi because he did not want a 'handshake' with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
"Kenya Kwanza should stop worrying about an illusory handshake." Kenya Kwanza is too shady to be accepted, which is why we have chosen to give dialogue a chance," Kenyatta's favoured successor, former Prime Minister Kenyatta, said.
"We embraced the talks in order to secure a good deal for Kenyans, and if the deal is not forthcoming, Kenyans can be certain that we will not pursue futile dialogue."

Odinga has refused to admit defeat to Dr Ruto in the August 2022 presidential election and has led anti-government protests since March.
On April 2, he called an end to the biweekly protests after President Ruto welcomed him to bipartisan parliamentary talks to address their issues.
During the jubilee party's National Delegates Conference (NDC) at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi, former president uhuru kenyatta said that he is not retiring from active politics any time soon.
"Nilikuwa kwa fikra zangu niende nishughulikie mambo mengi na nilikuwa nafikiria siku ya NDC itakuwa ya kuwambia wakati umefika wa kuwacha siasa na kupea wengine ushukani...hiyo ndio ilikuwa fikra yangu," Uhuru said
During a National Delegates Conference (NDC) held on Monday at the Ngong Racecourse, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni stated that the party decided to make the changes after observing that some of its members had proven to be unfaithful to the party.
The departing NEC members are Joshua Kuttuny, Jimmy Angwenyi, Naomi Shaban, Nelson Nzuya, Mutava Musymi, and Kanini Kega.
