Police in Kisii have detained a well-known self-proclaimed Bishop affiliated with the Pentecostal Evangelical Fellowship of Africa Church (PEFA) on suspicion of acquiring money through deception.
The DCI apprehended Bishop Samson Obonyo while he was strolling along Jogoo estate's street in Kisii Township, following several complaints filed by over 15 people who claimed the man of the cloth' had swindled them out of hundreds of thousands of dollars to secure Visas with the promise of greener pastures abroad.
According to a police report obtained by Citizen Digital, over 20 youth from the PEFA church flocked to Kisii Central police station with heartbreaking stories about the self-proclaimed General Overseer, who promised them visas and gainful employment in various overseas countries after they paid facilitation fees totalling Ksh. 30,000 each.
The 60-year-old, however, distanced himself from the allegations in an exclusive interview with Citizen Digital at Kisii police station, saying that he was not responsible for the loss of over Ksh.1.4 million from PEFA faithful, adding that different group members should be held accountable for the offence.

Obonyo also requested that the security team investigate the incident, stating that he would hand over his phone to investigate any suspicious transactions.
He did confirm, however, that there was a plan to send several teenagers abroad for work, albeit the procedure was suspended due to the development of COVID-19.
According to Kisii County Police Commander Charles Kases, some victims were compelled to travel as far as Nairobi for medical inspections only to have bogus physicians present for medical examinations to give victims hope of moving abroad.
PEFA Church officials have yet to issue a formal statement on the matter.
