The staff and pupils of Chepkoti Primary School in West Pokot County's Siyoi area are anxious following an incident where a man is said to have broken into the school's grounds and poisoned food supplies.

The revelation of the food supply being in disorder sparked concerns, according to the school's head teacher told NTV Kenya on Friday, June 16.

Notably, the cooking oil had undergone a noticeable colour change, transitioning from its usual yellowish hue to a disturbing greyish shade. Further inspection revealed the presence of powder-like particles, resembling anti-rodent poison, floating on the oil's surface.

This incident has left the school community on high alert, as the students' and staff's safety and well-being have been compromised. The authorities have been notified, and investigations are underway to identify the culprit responsible for this disturbing act.

The event is a sharp reminder of the necessity for more robust security measures in educational settings and the value of guaranteeing the safety of both students and employees. To resolve the problem and reduce any further threats to the participants' welfare, the impacted school is taking the required procedures.

The robbery at the grocery store may have been an inside job as there were no indications of a forced entrance. The frying oil, beans, and corn have all been removed for analysis.

Kirui advised parents not to become alarmed while investigations get started and added that police have started looking for the offender.

"We suspect the man in the company of others entered the head teacher's office and a food store adjacent to the office on Thursday night and committed the heinous act. The head teacher alleges that he securely locked the office and found it intact later," West Pokot sub-county police commandant Kipkemoi Kirui said.

Nobody on the staff or among the students ate any of it. The suspect is also suspected of taking salt and beans in addition to the KSh 6,400.
