All National Health Insurance Fund(NHIF) staff are set to undergo a lifestyle audit as the Ministry of Health seeks to combat fraud.
Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Susan Wafula stated on Monday the audit exercise that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission will conduct will require the staff to explain their wealth sources, which are expected to be commensurate with their pay.
She said any inconsistencies that will be flagged will be subjected to further investigations and attract legal measures.
"We will commence an elaborate lifestyle audit on all staff of NHIF. This is to ensure that each staff member can explain their wealth portfolio in consistency with their earnings. This will commence this month in conjunction with the EACC but will continue progressively to the end of the year."
Further, the CS suspended NHIF branch managers in the areas affected by fraud allegations.

She also ordered the NHIF board to investigate the alleged fraud and present a preliminary report to her desk within 48 hours.
According to the CS, the investigations include inviting the whistleblower to shed light on the syndicate.
The CS has further directed the division of standards and regulations to take action and give a report.
"I have further made a special request to EACC to liaise with NHIF and carry out comprehensive investigations with the aim of finding out how these cartels syphon resources from Kenyans and from NHIF specifically and I hope this can be availed within the next seven days," the CS said.
