The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) has condemned Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai for reportedly assaulting a Kenya electrical engineer for allegedly disconnecting an illegal electrical line at the MP's home in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, IEK President Erick Ohaga condemned the politician for the incident, which was captured in a now-viral video, calling his behaviour an 'intimidation to their personnel' and calling for the MP's arrest.
"In the video, the kitui east MP is seen using derogatory language toward the engineer and his team in front of other employees and bystanders." This unjustified intimidation, harassment, and vicious assault on an engineer during his duties is a disgrace to the whole engineering community, particularly the esteemed members of the Institution of Engineers."

He added that they condemn the actions of the Member of Parliament for Kitui East in the strongest terms possible and demand that he faces the full force of the law for his unlawful conduct towards the Kenya power engineer.
Citing the event in the video where the MP was seen attempting to draw a gun while hurling insults and repeatedly hitting the engineer, the Institution called for the MP's firearm ownership license revoked. Ohanga claims that his behaviour and hostility against their employees endanger the public.
He said they want the relevant authority in charge of civilian firearms licensing to move quickly to revoke the assailant's license to carry arms and permanently bar him from being a licensed arm holder.
President Ohaga defended the assaulted engineer, claiming he was carrying out his duties legally, emphasizing that building unauthorized and inadequate power lines was related to electrical mishaps and deaths.
As a result, he reprimanded the legislator for using an illegal technique to resolve his complaints with the firm rather than going via the proper channels.
