Julius Mugoi, the prime suspect in the brutal murder of ex-Treasury official Tom Osinde, has revealed that he was hired to kill Osinde.

While in police custody, Mugoi told investigators that people hired him and his accomplices to take out the ex-Treasury official and clean up the crime scene. The suspect, however, refused to give more details about the identity of the people that hired them and why Osinde would be targeted.

A post-mortem investigation of ex-Treasury officer Tom Osinde's body revealed that he died from two slash wounds.

Dr Johansen Oduor, a government pathologist who performed an autopsy on Osinde's remains at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, concluded that the slashes caused brain damage and spine injury.

The one-and-a-half-hour autopsy was intended to assist homicide detectives in piecing together the events that led to his untimely death and solving the murder puzzle.

Osinde was last seen alive at his home on Sunday, June 18, 2023, before his strange disappearance, for which he is assumed to have been murdered. His body was discovered floating on the River Kuja in Kamagambo, at the border of Migori and Kisii counties, on June 22.

Senior detectives are still analysing the CCTV footage recovered from various areas they suspect the killers visited while disposing of the body of the slain ex-Treasury official. The detectives said they were looking to see who was behind the wheel of the car owned by Tom Osinde.

33-year-old Julius Mugoi had only worked for Osinde for three months before he was involved in the brutal murder. he ails from South Mugirango, Kisii County, and people in his village did not have nice things to say about him.

One villager accused him of stealing ksh 100000 before disappearing for three years, and he emerged later with an SUV.

“Tumesoma naye hapa Nyakeyo but ata akiwa class 7 alikuwa akivuta mkia,” Elishafan Kibagendi, a resident said.

The prime suspect will remain in court as police gather more evidence to prosecute him.
