President William Ruto is hosting his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi at the State House for bilateral talks to review and re-energize the two countries relations.
Raisi was expected to arrive in the country on Tuesday before being rescheduled abruptly.
He inspected a guard of honour some minutes past 7 am.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Iranian leader’s schedule was reviewed to allow for the finalisation of key MoUs central to further relations.
The rare trip to Africa by Raisi is a component of Iran's most recent diplomatic initiatives to lessen the Islamic country's isolation by creating new relationships.
The three-day trip, the Iranian president's first to Africa in 11 years, also includes stops in Zimbabwe and Uganda.
Senior businessmen and the Iranian foreign minister will be part of the delegation led by Raisi.
On Monday, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani described the trip as "a new turning point" which could bolster economic and trade ties with African nations.
He added that Tehran and the three African nations' reconciliation is predicated on "common political views."
Iran has intensified its diplomacy in recent months to lessen its isolation and counteract the effects of crushing sanctions reimposed since the United States withdrew from a meticulously negotiated nuclear deal in 2018.
