Tottenham Hotspur has announced the appointment of Johan Lange, Aston Villa's former global director of football development, as their new technical director.

Reports from British media suggest that Lange will essentially take over from Fabio Paratici, who left his position as Spurs' managing director of football earlier this year after his appeal against a 30-month ban from football was dismissed. The ban was enforced by the Italian Football Federation due to his involvement in transfer dealings and financial matters during his time at Juventus.

“We are delighted to announce that Johan Lange has been appointed technical director with effect from Nov. 1, 2023,” Spurs said in a statement on Monday.

“Lange will have responsibility for recruitment, analytics and talent identification across our senior and academy teams.”

In 2020, Lange assumed the role of sporting director at Aston Villa. The club experienced a notable resurgence under manager Unai Emery last season, leading to Lange's promotion to the position of global director of football development in June.

“Johan has demonstrated an excellent track record of scouting and signing many talented and successful youth and senior players,” Spurs’ Chief Football Officer Scott Munn said.

“He is a welcome addition as we strengthen our football operations.”

Under the guidance of new manager Ange Postecoglou, Spurs, who secured an eighth-place finish last season and missed out on European football for the first time since 2010, have kicked off the current campaign impressively. They currently lead the Premier League after eight games.
