Norah Jeruto, the world champion in the steeplechase, has been given a provisional suspension for violating anti-doping rules, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on Friday.

At the 2022 world championships in Eugene, Jeruto, a former Kenyan who defected to Kazakhstan, won the gold medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and set a championship record that ranked third all-time.

Jeruto was suspended "for the use of a Prohibited Substance/Method (ABP)," the AIU stated on Twitter.

The Athlete's Biological Passport, or ABP, displays differences that may indicate the presence of doping.

The 27-year-old distance runner, who also won the Diamond League gold in the same competition in 2021, has been served with a notice of the charge, according to the AIU.

Jeruto could not attend the Tokyo Olympics due to her change of allegiance.
