A 45-year-old man died on his way home from the London Marathon on Sunday, race organizers said in a statement.

Steve Shanks, from Nottingham, was a seasoned runner who finished the race in two hours, 53 minutes, and 26 seconds, according to race organizers, who added that the cause of his death would be determined later through a medical test.

The organisers of the event said that Everyone at London Marathon Events was deeply saddened to hear about the sudden death of Steve Shanks.

Adding that A fundraising page for the Multiple Sclerosis Society has been set up in Steve's memory

Kenya's Kelvin Kiptum won the men's race in a course record time of two hours, one minute, and 25 seconds, while Dutch middle-distance racer Sifan Hassan won the women's race in a surprise upset in her marathon debut.

Over 48,000 individuals completed the race.
