Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0 to win the Premier League Summer Series preseason tournament in Maryland, Washington. Thiago Silva's header from a Ben Chilwell corner in the 20th minute gave the game its first goal.
The victory was clinched just before halftime thanks to a tap-in from Christopher Nkunku following solid work from Carney Chukwuemeka.
Nkunku scored his third goal of the preseason after joining for £52 million from RB Leipzig.
Although Calvin Bassey, who was playing for the team for the first time since his £19 million move from Ajax, headed over from a corner in the second half, Fulham did not pose much of an attacking threat.
Trevoh Chalobah, a defender for Chelsea, had to be replaced after needing medical attention for a bump on the field.
Because fellow center-back Benoit Badiashile is not anticipated to be ready for the start of the Premier League season, Chelsea's new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, will be worried about this potential injury.
However, Chelsea and AS Monaco have reached an agreement for the defender Axel Disasi to join them for 45 million euros (£38.57 million).
By winning, Chelsea will have won the inaugural Premier League Summer Series, a preseason competition that also included Aston Villa, Brighton, Brentford, and Newcastle.
Brentford seized the lead when Kevin Schade was brought down in the box by Ezri Konsa, leading to a penalty which Bryan Mbuemo successfully converted.
Josh Da Silva doubled the lead with a beautiful curling drive from the edge of the box that gave Emiliano Martinez no chance of stopping it as it sailed into the top corner of the goal.
But Villa surged back with three goals in a frantic 10-minute period.
Konsa got the first after he picked the ball up inside his own half and dribbled into the Brentford box before slamming the ball high into the net past Mark Flekken.
French winger Moussa Diaby, who scored on his debut against Fulham three days ago after arriving from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported £51.9m, cut inside the box and shot to make it 2-2.
Matty Cash completed the turnaround in the first half when he cut back inside fired low into the net.
Keane Lewis-Potter's looping shot hit the crossbar in the 67th minute, and Brentford midfielder Shandon Baptiste was there to score the game's sixth goal.
