Jackson Tuwei, the president of Athletics Kenya, has been chosen as one of the World Athletics' four vice presidents.

Tuwei finished fourth out of eight candidates in the World Athletics Council elections, held on Thursday at the 54th World Athletics Congress in Budapest, Hungary. Tuwei received 104 votes, placing him fourth overall among the eight candidates.

In addition to serving as the vice president of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) and the president of the Eastern Africa Athletics region (EAAR), Tuwei now holds several leadership positions locally and throughout the continent.

He is chairman of the Sports, Arts, and Social Development Fund.


Ximena Restrepo of Colombia (154 votes), Raul Chapado of Spain (119 votes), and Adille Sumariwalla of India (115 votes) also received the position of vice president.

Sebastian Coe, the head of the World Athletics Federation, was not challenged.
