Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wah has been forbidden from publishing defamatory statements about lawyer Danstan Omari.

In the case, Omari sued Ichung'wah for claimed slander and sought Ksh.11 million in damages.

According to the lawyer, the politician implied that he is immoral and frequents the infamous Koinange Street, a hotbed for commercial sex workers.

In his lawsuit, Omari claimed he is a family man, a long-time campaigner, and a well-known television commentator on various public topics.

During a previous interview on NTV, Omari blamed President William Ruto's government, especially Ichung'wah, for what he called harassment of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"We have a new regime that wants to drag Uhuru Kenyatta into court, and as lawyers, we'll make money defending him, but what will the impact be?" Globally, the departed President wields considerable power..."Globally, Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta control 80% of the networks," claimed the attorney in an interview

Ichung’wah, however, did not take the remarks lying down, firing back at the lawyer on X platform, formerly Twitter, saying: "Phewl At least am known in Kikuyu by my people unlike the fake media based liar only known along Koinange Street!"

In a demand letter filed by his lawyer, Brian Mabeya, Omari called the response defamatory and intended to paint him poorly.

As a result, he demanded that the National Assembly Majority Leader retract the tweet above and apologize to him within a week, failing which he threatened to take him through the courts.

"The import of your impugned tweet was to portray our client as a person of loose morals, a person who keeps the company of prostitutes, and an immoral person, never mind the fact that our client is an advocate of several years standing and has been a lecturer of law," lawyer Mabeya wrote in the demand letter dated April 12, 2016.

“He is also a father and a married man, and a known commentator on various public issues on media. Your tweet was therefore calculated to injure the image and character of our client in the eyes of the public.”
