A list of the designated areas in each of the 47 counties where the National Tree Growing exercise is scheduled to take place on Monday has been made public by the Ministry of Environment.

President William Ruto will start The tree-growing initiative at Kiu Wetland in Makindu, Makueni County.

Environment CS Soipan Tuya said in a statement released on Friday that Cabinet Secretaries will support tree-growing initiatives at the county level, with each secretary supporting initiatives in at least two counties.

According to CS Tuya, 150 million plantable seedlings are available at Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) and Kenya Forest Services (KFS) nurseries nationwide, in addition to nurseries run by other government ministries, departments, and agencies.

“Additionally, there are millions of seedlings in private nurseries, run by women and youth groups in Community Forest Associations and Community-Based Organizations across the country available at a fee,” said CS Tuya.

She urged Kenyans to take time off their private obligations on Monday to take part in the tree-planting exercise.

“I know being a public a holiday, many of us will take advantage of the break to attend to other private and social obligations, but for the sake of the wellbeing of our environment and for mother nature, and as a call to national duty, I urge all of us to honour the National Tree Growing Day,” she said.

The national target for the short rains season is 500 million seedlings, and the government plans to plant at least 100 million seedlings nationwide on Monday.
