A study released on Wednesday claims that over 5 billion people, or roughly 62.3 percent of the world's population, use social media regularly.

According to a report by social media agency We Are Social and media monitoring firm Meltwater, compared to the global population growth of 0.9 percent, the number increased by 5.6 percent last year.

Facebook on Meta had 2.19 billion users, making it the most popular social network. With 1.56 billion, TikTok was just ahead of Meta's Instagram, which came in second place with 1.65 billion.

The report warns that obtaining exact numbers is difficult because people use different identities or automated accounts.

The OpenAI-developed IA language model "ChatGPT" was the most searched-for entry on Wikipedia, demonstrating the growing interest in artificial intelligence.

The report used data that Kepios, a digital consulting firm, gathered.
