The upcoming 120-bed capacity Hospital Plaza at the Vihiga County Referral Hospital is to be completed in four months, with over 80 percent of the work so far done.

According to the  Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Victor Zimbulu, its completion will boost the accessibility of health services to the residents and the people of the larger western region.

Speaking while on an inspection tour in the company of the area, Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo and the County Health Management Committee (CHMC), Dr. Zimbulu said they are determined to ensure the referral hospital expands its capacity to meet the demand for the services.

At the same time, the medic said a 120-capacity freezer funeral home is 99 percent complete and will soon be commissioned.

The state-of-the-art morgue has 24 Very Important Persons (VIPs) freezers, the largest in the former western province.

He explained that the facility contains among others a pathology room, a body viewing area and a chapel where requiem mass service can be conducted before the bodies are ferried home.

The County has 4 Sub County hospitals, 18 health centers, 23 dispensaries and several private and mission hospitals and clinics.
