Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has finally explained why he missed the senate summons, which led him to be fined ksh 500000.
The Nairobi Governor said he missed the Senate hearing because the house had adjourned other summons by individuals invited before the house for various reasons, including travel.
“Sensationalizing a rescheduling and making the Senate appear as if it acts in vain is what belittles the house. Many appearances by other invitees have been rescheduled due to travel, infirmity, or prior booked official engagements,” he said.

Sakaja said he has gone before the Senate multiple times and is eager to answer all questions about the Mradi explosion or the Financial Year 2020-2022 audits. He said he takes summonses from the Senate very seriously since they are a constitutional necessity.
“I have appeared severally and will continue to do so. I have no reasons not to answer or respond to any questions raised on Mradi or FY 20-22 audits,” Sakaja asserted.
“Appearing before the Senate is a constitutional requirement which I take seriously. It is the same members who announced that I was out of the country on Monday who are now up in arms that I am away.”
This comes after he was fined Ksh.500,000 in response to a summons investigating the Mradi gas explosion in Embakasi on February 2, which killed six people and wounded more than 200.
The County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAIC) also asked him on April 8 to explain how Ksh.76 billion was spent in four future fiscal years (2019-2023), but he did not show up.
