Francis Atwoli, the Secretary General of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU), has openly identified the influential leader whom he believes should emerge as the new figurehead of the Western region. This statement comes amidst ongoing speculation and intense political activities within the area.

Numerous politicians have publicly thrown their weight behind different candidates for the position, with some endorsing the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, while others rally behind Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya. Additionally, a recent faction has emerged in support of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.

During an interview with Jeff Koinange on Citizen TV, the COTU Boss addressed concerns regarding the political stability of the region amidst the current situation where leaders from the area have become divided. Atwoli emphasized that the ongoing divisive politics is detrimental and does not serve to unify the Luhya people as one community. He urged politicians from the region to reach a consensus and agree on a single leader who will serve as the unifying "Mulembe" kingpin.

Atwoli declared that Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is the top contender for the significant role. The COTU Secretary General stressed that the region requires a leader who possesses not only power and political stability but also a successful track record, intelligence, and reliability. This leader should be capable of uniting the Luhya people and guiding them towards a common direction.
