Ezra Chiloba was plagued by controversy from working for the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) when he went before the National Assembly's Defense and Foreign Relations Committee for screening.

Chiloba, a candidate for the Los Angeles Consul-General post, was also sharply questioned about the Ksh. Eight hundred million fortune he has accumulated over the years.

He was asked to explain why, in his experience working in public office, scandals always seemed to follow him.

"There are some doubts about you, from what you have presented it shows you have never worked in the private sector meaning you have been in the public sector all your life, yet you have an enormous Ksh.800 million in wealth. Can you explain that?" Posed Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan.

"Your CV shows that you are restless," he continued. It demonstrates that you served for a few years, or even months, before quitting to take a different position. Can you be trusted to stick around if given this position?

However, Chiloba clarified that his multimillion-dollar wealth resulted from his fixed assets and agricultural endeavors. He also mentioned that he provides consulting services and receives compensation from a formal job.

"I have been very fortunate, because I started working while still in school in 2001. Currently, I engage in agri-business and I plant and sell avocados in my farm in Kitale. Over the years I have also been able to save money derived from formal employment and my consultancy business," he explained.

Regarding his contentious allegations from the IEBC and CA, Chiloba maintained that he was exonerated of any misconduct within the organizations and that the attention was solely directed towards the wrongs that transpired.

This came after MP Joshua Kandie of Baringo Central questioned his eligibility to hold another public office in light of his contentious resignations from the two positions he had held.

According to Kandie, Chiloba mismanaged staff mortgages at CA and was accused of manipulating the 2017 General Election while he was employed at the IEBC.

As a result, the legislator tried to find out why Chiloba seemed to seek out "trouble" wherever he went.

Kandie feared that the gentleman would travel to Los Angeles and cause another scandal.

"My exit from the authority was due to a conflict of vision with some people. I decided to exit because I did not want things to escalate to where they were when I was at IEBC. I have since been cleared by EACC over the allegations of mismanaging staff mortgages," noted Chiloba.
