Officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a senior official from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over allegations that she secured her job using forged academic credentials.

Caroline Sabiri Manyange, the Manager for Boundaries Delimitation, was taken into custody at her residence in Nairobi West on Monday and is currently held at the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station.

According to EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi, an investigation revealed that Caroline forged a Master of Arts degree in Population Studies, purportedly awarded by the University of Nairobi on May 9, 2004. She allegedly used the fake degree to secure a promotion within the IEBC, earning a total salary and benefits exceeding Ksh.37 million.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) authorized charges against her, including forgery under sections 345 and 349 of the Penal Code and presenting a false document under section 353.

EACC has announced its intention to pursue legal action to recover the Ksh.37 million, which they classify as unlawfully acquired public funds.
