Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua expressed confidence in Kenya’s judiciary to uphold justice as he contests his removal from office.
Speaking at the funeral of Mwalimu Geoffrey Murugami in Limuru, Kiambu County, Gachagua encouraged Kenyans to stay united and peaceful regardless of the court’s decision.
"We trust that the Judiciary will defend Kenya’s Constitution and exercise fairness in delivering justice to me and my supporters. This is our hope," Gachagua remarked.

He also urged unity among Mt. Kenya residents, emphasizing that Kenya’s future should take precedence over any individual matters.
“I appeal to my people from Mt. Kenya: please maintain peace, love one another, and live harmoniously with all communities. We are all one nation,” he added.
The Deputy President’s statement comes shortly after he filed an appeal with the Court of Appeal, challenging last week’s ruling by a three-judge bench.
Gachagua's appeal disputes the decision allowing Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu to constitute the bench handling his impeachment, claiming this interpretation of the Constitution was flawed.
In his appeal, Gachagua is seeking a stay in the High Court proceedings pending the hearing and determination of his petition. He argued that his right to a fair trial would be jeopardized without these orders, rendering his Petition E565 of 2024 effectively irrelevant.
“Without these orders, any delay will irreparably harm my rights to a fair hearing and could result in the loss of the core issues in Petition E565 of 2024, making the appeal and the petition redundant,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua’s plea highlights his desire to address what he sees as constitutional misinterpretations while maintaining peace and unity throughout the legal process.
