The number of fatalities in the Londiani junction traffic disaster increased to 52 after two more victims were buried beneath the trailer's debris.

Evans Kidero, the newly appointed Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Trade and Investment, released a statement following the involvement of his staff in the Londiani disaster, which resulted in the deaths of over 45 persons.

As of Saturday morning, the mortuaries at the Kericho County Hospital and Londiani Sub-county Hospital had received 51 bodies.

According to a statement from Kidero's communication officer Jack Nduri, his driver and bodyguard were among the dozens of people killed in the traffic accident.

Due to an assignment in Kisumu, Dr Kidero's driver and bodyguard were not present when the accident occurred.

At least twenty-one (21) patients are currently being treated at the Kericho County Hospital for severe injuries.

According to the statement, Kidero's bodyguard and driver were inside a black Range Rover with the license plate KBS 786R when it was rear-ended and side-struck.

Witnesses said that a trailer lost control struck six public service cars, and then came to rest in a ditch alongside the road.
