Following UEFA's lead, FIFA lifted its suspension on Russia's under-17 teams on Wednesday, allowing them to compete in the World Cup.

Last week, young Russian teams were allowed back into UEFA competitions, but the country's senior teams were still barred because of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

FIFA noted that the decision is contingent on Russian teams using the "Football Union of Russia" and that using the national anthem, flag, or uniform would also be prohibited.

Following its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia was expelled from all international football competitions.

Due to a disqualification from qualifying, the Russian boys' under-17 team will not compete in the World Cup in Indonesia next month.

"The FIFA Council reiterated its condemnation of Russia's illegal war in Ukraine and confirmed that the remaining terms of the decision made on 28 February 2022 remain in force until the end of the conflict," the governing body said.

The Ukrainian Football Association announced that it will boycott any events containing Russian teams, and Poland will not play against Russian teams in protest of UEFA's decision.
