One of the three players from the diaspora named to the Kenyan national 3x3 senior team that will begin training for the upcoming Africa Cup in Egypt in December is Tylor Okari.

Derrick Ogechi and Albert Odera, who reside in the United States of America, are also listed. The group of three joins 12 others chosen during Tuesday's national trials held in the gym at Nyayo Stadium.

Elisha Odhiambo and Brans Nzioka of the Ulinzi Warriors, who recently represented their nation at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2023 in Lublin, Poland, are among the local players on the roster revealed yesterday.


League leaders Nairobi City Thunder have contributed the most to the club with six players. National champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) only has one, while Ulinzi Warriors have two.

"We invited about 72 players for the trials, but only 28 showed up," said Angela Luchivya, assistant secretary of the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF).

"Unavailability of passports kept out about 40 players and sadly out of the 16 players whose teams made it to the semis, another 10 were not eligible for selection after we checked their records with FIBA."


According to Luchivya, coach Zaddock Adika will begin non-residential training with the local players immediately. Tony Ochieng and Marti Okwako will help him.   

Eight of these local players and two from the diaspora will participate in high-altitude performance training before the 3x3 Africa Cup in December 2023.

Ariel Ortega, James Mwangi, Daril Omondi, Faheem Juma, Fidel Okoth, Larry Shavanga of the Nairobi City Thunder, Elisha Odhiambo of the Ulinzi Warriors, Eugene Adera of the KPA, Lension Kisia, Victor Ochieng of the Equity Bank, David Kamau of the Unattached, and Tylor Okari make up the squad.
