Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica crosses the finish line first to win the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Elaine Thompson-Herah, the five-time Olympic champion, has ended her coaching partnership with Shanikie Osbourne eight months ahead of her bid to defend her sprint titles at Paris 2024.
According to her management team, the 31-year-old athlete parted ways with Osbourne due to the coach's "extremely excessive" terms.
The Jamaican sprinter had clinched gold in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m events at Tokyo 2020, following her victories in the 100m and 200m at Rio 2016. Thompson-Herah also holds the distinction of being the second-fastest woman in history over 100m.
"Collectively, we had no choice but to seek the services of another coach," Thompson-Herah's management team said in a statement.
"With the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris fast approaching, Thompson-Herah is fully focused on her preparations for the season and the defence of her Olympic titles."
Despite her dominance in women's sprinting at the last two Olympic Games, Thompson-Herah faced disappointment as she did not qualify for this year's World Championships in Budapest due to an injury-plagued season.
The only woman to have run faster than Thompson-Herah's 100m personal best of 10.54 seconds is American Florence Griffith-Joyner, who clocked 10.49 seconds in 1988.
