Due to an injury, Thomas Partey, an Arsenal midfielder, was not included in Ghana's squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

Due to a hamstring issue, Partey, 30, has been unable to play since October.

"This is the biggest injury that he has had," said Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton.

"The most important thing for me as head coach and our association is to give him the support he needs through this period.

"Withstanding his injury, he certainly would be in the squad."

In addition to Tariq Lampey, the right-back for Brighton, Mohammed Kudus, the midfielder for West Ham, Antoine Semenyo, the forward for Bournemouth, and Daniel Amartey, the defender for Leicester City, are all included in the 27-man roster.

A record-tying eighth Afcon finals are expected to feature captain Andre Ayew, currently with the French club Le Havre.

However, winger Abdul Fatawu, who is on loan at Leicester from Sporting CP, is also not present. PAOK left-back Baba Rahman excluded himself from consideration to focus on his club form.

The 2023 Afcon finals are scheduled to start on January 13 and conclude on February 11 with a final. Ghana, Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique have been drawn into Group B.

In February of last year, Ghana, who had won the most recent of their four Afcon titles in 1982, was led by former Brighton and Newcastle manager Hughton.
