Some people online are raising eyebrows at the timing of Simone Biles' biological mother’s recent statements, which came just after the Paris Olympics concluded. Over the past few weeks, Simone delivered another stellar performance, adding four more medals to her impressive total of 14, which now includes 10 golds.

The Columbus, Ohio native secured three gold medals and one silver at the 2024 Games. Team USA, led by Biles, dubbed their campaign a "redemption tour," and they successfully restored their country's dominance in gymnastics.

While the entire U.S. celebrated Simone’s achievements, her biological mother, Shanon, was also cheering her on. Shanon even hosted a backyard party to celebrate Simone's success this year. But some may wonder why Shanon wasn’t at the games in person.

The answer lies in their complicated history: when Simone was around three years old, Shanon lost custody due to her struggles with addiction. Simone and her siblings were placed in foster care, and at age six, they were adopted by Simone’s grandfather, Ron Biles, and his wife, Nellie Cayetano Biles.

Since then, Simone has referred to Ron and Nellie as her parents, and her relationship with Shanon has been nearly nonexistent. However, after the Paris Games, Shanon expressed a desire to reconnect with Simone.

In an interview with The Daily Mail, Shanon shared her hopes of making amends and is waiting for Simone to decide how to move forward. "I would like to make amends with Simone personally. I'm just waiting for her and Adria. I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone. I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don't judge me on my past. Let's move forward."

What do you think about Simone Biles' mother wanting to reconcile now? Does the timing, right after the Olympics, seem suspicious to you? Is this the best way for them to reconnect? If you were in Simone’s position, how would you handle it? We’d love to hear your thoughts, so share them in the comments.
