Tatyana Tomashova, a former Russian athlete, has been stripped of her 2012 Olympic 1500m silver medal due to doping.

Tomashova, 49, was sanctioned after two out-of-competition tests on June 21 and July 17, 2012, were reanalyzed at the end of 2021 and found to contain anabolic steroids.

She has also received a 10-year ban after serving a two-year sentence in 2008.

The two-time world champion placed fourth in the 1500m final at the London Olympics 12 years ago but was elevated to silver after Turkish medallists Asli Cakir Alptekin and Gamze Bulut were removed for doping.

Bahrain's Maryam Yusuf Jamal won the gold medal despite finishing third behind Cakir.
