Kenya has made modest progress in the latest FIFA rankings, rising from 108th to 102nd, according to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association’s report released on Thursday, September 19.

The country’s score increased by 11.23 points, bringing Kenya's total to 1208.96, up from 1197.73 in the previous ranking.

This marks Kenya's most consistent upward trend in the past five years, as the national team, Harambee Stars, moves closer to breaking into the global top 50.

Kenya's highest-ever FIFA ranking was 68 in 2008, while its lowest was 137 in 2007.

In East Africa, Uganda leads the rankings at 90th, followed by Tanzania at 110th. Somalia, Burundi, Rwanda, and South Sudan occupy positions 102, 136, 130, and 172, respectively.

Kenya's recent rise comes on the back of a strong performance in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Harambee Stars recently claimed a 2-1 win over Namibia, moving them to the top of their AFCON qualification group.

This progress follows efforts by Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who is advocating for reforms within the Football Kenya Federation. His goal is to ensure compliance with the Sports Act and enhance the organization’s management.
