Arsenal claimed their first win in the new Champions League format with a victory over Paris St-Germain at Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s team, after an opening draw against Atalanta, took control in the first half with two goals: a header from Kai Havertz and a free-kick by Bukayo Saka that slipped past PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

PSG had their chances, with Nuno Mendes and Joao Neves both striking the woodwork on either side of the break, but Arsenal's dominant first-half performance laid the foundation for the win.

Havertz opened the scoring after 20 minutes, heading in Leandro Trossard’s inviting cross as he beat Donnarumma to the ball. Moments later, the PSG goalkeeper was caught off guard by Bukayo Saka’s free-kick from near the touchline, as he was unsighted in a crowded penalty area.

PSG, now without former superstars like Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar, applied pressure after the break as Arsenal struggled to maintain possession. However, Arteta remained confident, handing a debut to Mikel Merino, the £31m signing from Real Sociedad, on what proved to be another successful night for Arsenal.
