The AFC Leopards' head coach, Patrick Aussems, chastised his side for failing to defeat Gor Mahia at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

The thrilling Mashemeji derby ended in a scoreless draw, which disappointed the Belgian head coach.

"We didn't score the most points this afternoon, which makes me a little disappointed. Because we generated more opportunities and dominated play, we were the superior team "says Aussems.

We have been maintaining a clean sheet for most of the season when we cannot win.

Gor's head coach, Jonathan McKinstry, commended his players for playing with great enthusiasm, which helped them move up to second place in the log with 24 points, three points behind Nzoia Sugar.

According to McKinstry, the derby lived up to expectations. "I believe the outcome was fair, and the football match itself was excellent. Football was played superbly by each squad. Although we dominated for the bulk of the first half, the final 10 minutes required us to play a lot of defense "said McKinstry.

"Although we entered the game expecting to win, it's just another point added to our tally. We hope to win our upcoming games so we may finish first in the league "They said.

AFC Leopard's right-back Lewis Bandi (L) battles with Boniface Omondi of Gor Mahia during the Mashemeji derby at Nyayo Stadium.

Austin Odhiambo came close to scoring in the 10th minute with a rasping shot from 25 yards out. In the 20th minute, Benson Omalla was successfully located by Boniface Omondi thanks to a crisp pass, almost making up for K'Ogalo's stunning exhibition of fast passes.

The striker was going to push the ball into the open net with goalkeeper Levis Opiyo already out of position when the move did not go through by Leopards centre-back Robert Mudenyi.

Three minutes before halftime, Nigerian forward Ojo Olaniyi missed a great chance to give Leopards the lead when he awkwardly headed Peter Thiongo's cross into Gad Mathew's extended palms.

The Leopards, who were in dire need of a goal, made another foray into Gor's area attempt from 20 yards out, forcing Mathew into a full-stretch save.
Center referee Josephine Kamau had to halt play for more than three minutes after Gor defender Paul Otieno struck in the shins.

AFC Leopards looked more threatening when they emerged from the tunnel following the break, and it didn't take them long to begin providing a goalmouth threat to K'Ogalo.

Brian Wanyama pounced on Victor Omune's skilful pass, but goalkeeper Mathew parried away his booming shot from the edge of the box for an unnecessary corner.

Leopards coach Patrick Aussems replaced the unpredictable Omune with Moses Oundo in a last-ditch effort to control the game.

In response, Austin Odhiambo and Boniface Omondi were switched out for John Macharia and Peter Lwassa, respectively, by his Gor opponent McKinstry.

His decision paid off very immediately because the new legs kept invading Leopard territory.

The Leopards had a chance to reply during the end-to-end game, and Mathew was needed to stop Jaffary Owiti's shot from the right channel.

Leopards are now seventh on the list with 18 points due to the outcome. Another game scheduled for the day saw Bandari upset Nairobi Stars 2-1 at Mbaraki Stadium.
