Omanyala, Africa's 100m champion, dug deep midway through to take the lead before winning in 6.54 seconds, breaking his previous national record by 0.1 seconds. Omanyala defeated Olympic gold medalist Jacobs for the very first time. The Italian sprinter finished second in a season-best 6.57, while Arthur Cisse of Côte d'Ivoire finished third in 6.59.

Omanyala quickly and sweetly exacted his revenge on Jacobs, who defeated him in the same race last year. The Italian won in 6.50 seconds, a personal best, while Omanyala finished fourth in 6.57 seconds, a national record.

Omanyala finished second in the Elite Indoor Track Miramas meet on February 3 in 6.60 seconds before winning the Mondeville Meeting in early February in a national record of 6.55 seconds. Omanyala then won the Meeting de Paris in 6.56 seconds, 0.1 seconds slower than his previous best.

This is the first race Ferdinand omanyala competed in after graduating from the police academy. Omanyala confirmed his new position in a tweet, "It's Official." Yesterday afternoon, Omanyala officially confirmed his graduation as a police constable. He accompanied the tweet with two photos of himself in ceremonial police uniform, one alone and one with his wife smiling beside him.

He joins David Rudisha, Vivian Cheruiyot, Ezekiel Kemboi, and former world javelin champion Julius Yego as top Kenyan athletes and police officers.
