Trans Nzoia County government has allocated Kes650 million in the reconstruction of Kenyatta Stadium to boost sporting activities in the County.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya disclosed that the county government allocated the funds for the first phase of rehabilitation works at the hitherto dilapidated stadium.

“Our main objective is to upgrade Kenyatta stadium to an ultra-modern sports complex so that it can serve its main purpose of promoting sporting activities in this county,” said Natembeya.

Speaking during the launch of the project, Natembeya stated that on completion of the reconstruction of the Stadium, it would address inadequacies in terms of infrastructure and modern equipment currently affecting the sports sector in the county.

“The end goal is to enable my administration to tap and develop sporting talents among our youths so that this group can actively participate in spurring economic growth of the county,” he said.

The stadium will have a sitting capacity of 50,000 people apart from sporting and training arenas.

The Governor assured the public that his administration had initiated the process of reclaiming allegedly grabbed land which belonged to the stadium.

On his part, Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi regretted that the region had lagged behind in terms of sports due to poor leadership in the past.

“We are hopeful that this stadium will play a key role in sports development in this county. We also call for the establishment of a county football team,” said Wanyonyi
