Winners of last year’s Eldoret City Marathon Fourth Edition have been assured they will receive their pending prizes on Friday, March 10.

Eldoret City Marathon Director Moses Tanui said that athletes who participated and won in different races would receive their money soon.

He said the delayed payment was because of the pending anti-doping results so as to avoid paying individuals who have violated the rules of the sport.

“It was not my wish for the payments to be delayed as we are following the race’s anti-doping policy precautions and measures that the athletes paid are clean,” he explained.

He further noted that the fourth edition of the annual road race saw Victor Kipchirchir and Emily Chebet clinch the men and women’s titles in times of 2:13:10 and 2:29:58 respectively and both of them will receive a cash prize of Sh3.5 million each.

“We want to make it bigger and better in the coming years as the Eldoret City Marathon is an opening to young athletes who have been competing locally and lack global opportunities. The marathons that have been done previously in Eldoret have benefited and made champions in Boston, London, and Berlin races,” he added.

“Apart from nurturing young talents, the organizers also envisioned the marathon as a platform for advocating for mass tree planting as a solution for climate change which is an issue that affects every community in the world,” he said

He added that the partnership with different athletes from different countries will boost sports tourism, more particularly the partnership between Kenya and Ethiopia through the Eldoret City Marathon and the Great Ethiopian Run.
