Chelsea has denounced the "hateful chants" directed at Liverpool by home fans during their league game on Tuesday.

The offensive chanting overshadowed Chelsea and Liverpool's Premier League match, which ended in a scoreless tie at Stamford Bridge.

After the outcome, however, focus shifted away from the field as both clubs and the league issued comments denouncing the slogans used by Chelsea supporters.

The Blues apologized to anyone offended by the derogatory shouts that were heard during the league game and referenced the Hillsborough tragedy.

In its statement, the club says: "Chelsea FC denounces the offensive slogans that some of the home fans sang throughout this evening's game. Football has no place for hate speech, and we apologize to anyone who has been hurt by it."

Liverpool declared: "We are aware of how these hateful shouts affect individuals who endure ongoing suffering as a result of football disasters. This has to end for their sake."

Added by the league: "The tragedy chanting heard at tonight's Chelsea vs. Liverpool game is condemned by the Premier League. We continue to view this as an intolerable problem that has to be fixed right away."

It happened just a few days after Manchester City denounced the actions of their supporters, who, during the weekend's game against Liverpool, also hurled vile insults towards Liverpool fans.

Following yesterday night's draw, Liverpool and Chelsea are currently in seventh and eighth, respectively, in league with 43 points, seven points behind fourth-place Tottenham.

On the other hand, Chelsea is still in 11th place and tied with Fulham in terms of points.

It was their first game following Graham Potter's dismissal, with Bruno Saltor now in charge of the first team.

During the league match, he said, "They have had a terrible time. They have encountered this circumstance before this season.

"You put a lot of trust in the manager as a player. There have been positive interactions between Graham and the players. The players have also been hurt.

"All we have to do is keep assisting them. It's been a difficult season for them since they've been going through a lot of things as well. The attitude and the effort, which were present, were what they could influence the most."
