The 127th Boston Marathon takes place on Monday evening in the US state of Massachusetts.
While the focus has been on the star-studded field set for the race, the marathon also stands out as one of the highest-paying marathons on the planet.
Due to the revised prize money in 2022, the victor in the men's and women's top divisions would pocket $150,000 (Ksh 20,157,000), with the first runner-up receiving $75,000 (Ksh10,078,500) and the second runner-up receiving $40,000 (Ksh5,375,200).
In addition, any competitor who breaks the course record in both categories will get an extra $50,000 (Ksh 6,719,000).

Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai established the men's course record of two hours, three minutes and two seconds in 2011, while Bizunesh Deba of Ethiopia set the women's mark of two hours, 19 minutes and 59 seconds in 2014.
World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge is the pre-race favourite to win the title on his first trip on Boston's streets.
Kipchoge will be accompanied by fellow Kenyans defending champion Evans Chebet, 2021 winner Benson Kipruto, two-time Los Angeles marathon champion John Korir, 2021 New York City Marathon champion Albert Korir, and 2022 Berlin Marathon runner-up Mark Korir.
The women's competition is equally intense, with two-time winner Edna Kiplagat, last year's third-place finisher Mary Ngugi, two-time world 5000m champion Hellen Obiri, Joyciline Jepkosgei, Viola Cheptoo, Celestine Chepchirchir, and Maurine Chepkemoi among those competing.
