In 2023, the Boston Marathon will be held for the 127th time.

Some of the world's top distance runners will descend on the city of Boston, hoping to win the world's oldest annual marathon event.

Following strong professional fields will be a large number of recreational runners, with over 30,000 people scheduled to compete.

They'll be able to soak up the ambiance of a popular spectator event as entrants attempt to complete the hard 26.2-mile race as a marathon finisher.


When is the Boston Marathon?

The Boston Marathon will be held on Monday 17 April, which is Patriots’ Day in the United States.

The rough start timings for the event are as follows:

Military March - 6 am ET (11am BST)

Men’s Wheelchair - 9.02 am ET (2.02pm BST)

Women’s Wheelchair - 9.05 am ET (2.05pm BST)

Handcycles & Duos - 9.30 am ET (2.30pm BST)

Professional Men - 9.37 am ET (2.37pm BST)

Professional Women - 9.45 am ET (2.45pm BST)

Para Athletics Divisions - 9.50 am ET (2.50pm BST)

Rolling Start Begins - 10.00 am ET (2pm BST)

Rolling Start Ends - 12.30 pm ET (5.30pm BST)

Eliud Kipchoge, the men’s marathon world record holder, headlines the entry list for the 2023 Boston Marathon. Evans Chebet, ast year’s winner, is also in the field - the fastest entrants are:
