The prospective Italian title decider between Napoli and Salernitana has been pushed to Sunday after officials in Naples ordered that the game be rescheduled for public order reasons.

Southern Italy's biggest club will be crowned winners for the first time since 1990 with a win over Salernitana in Naples this weekend if second-placed Lazio fails to beat Inter Milan.

Napoli's encounter was initially set to begin at 1300 GMT on Saturday, but a source informed AFP that it will now be played on Sunday after Lazio finishes the day's first match.

The league's official statement was scheduled for Thursday but has been pushed back to Friday due to delays in writing correspondence from Naples officials.

In advance of Lazio's match against Inter on Saturday, wild partying was predicted in tourist destination Naples, creating security fears.

Earlier Thursday, Naples prefect Claudio Palomba announced that the match would be postponed a day due to "the need to avoid events overlapping to assist the police."

On Saturday, a huge comic book convention will be held in Naples, attracting legions of fans.

"Had we kept the match on Saturday, we would have had to double our resources," Palomba explained. "As a result, we have taken a number of measures."

According to Italian media, Napoli's next match, against Udinese, will be rescheduled from Tuesday, May 2, to Thursday, May 4.

Napoli needs a maximum of five points to win the title. Thus that game could be the deciding factor in a long-awaited title triumph.
