Ferdinand Omanyala, Africa's fastest man, has established a new African and State record in the Men's 150m at the Atlanta City Games in Georgia, United States of America.

Omanyala had a personal best time of 14.89 seconds after finishing third behind race winner Noah Lyles (14.56) and Erriyon Knighton, who finished second in 14.85.

Omayla expressed his delight on social media after breaking a new national and African record.

"150 meters,14.89 is the 13th best of all time. African first.

"This is a national record." Thank you for your love, Atlanta." Omanyala spoke up.

He went on to thank his fans worldwide for always cheering him on wherever he races.

Omanyala beat Namibian Frankie Fredericks' 14.99 scores, setting a new African record with the 9.77 he set at the 2020 Kip Keino Classic.

Fredricks set the 150m (bend) record in 1993 after winning the 200m title in a championship record time of 19.85 seconds at the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.


Kenyans praised Omanyala for his new world record.
