On Sunday, Barcelona won La Liga for the first time since 2019, defeating Espanyol 4-2 and reclaiming the title from rivals Real Madrid.

The Catalan giants won their 27th Spanish championship in their rivals' stadium, with events turning ugly at full-time when ecstatic Barcelona players were forced off the field by pitch invaders.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice for the city of Barcelona, along with goals for Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde. However, Javi Puado and Joselu pulled two goals back for the hosts late on.

Barcelona has had a difficult time on and off the field recently. Still, their victory signifies a considerable change, with coach Xavi Hernandez claiming his first major prize since taking over in November 2021.

Given the club's precarious financial circumstances, President Joan Laporta's rebuilding was heavily criticized last summer.

Early elimination from the Champions League was a setback, but the club won the Spanish Super Cup in January before winning La Liga with four games to go.

"It was a very emotional moment, a moment that was difficult not to celebrate after so many months of hard work," Xavi stated.

"We didn't just celebrate because it was Espanyol's stadium."

The coach stated that the victory demonstrated that the team was on the right track.

"(It brings) a lot of calm, a lot of hope for the future," Xavi remarked.

"I am overjoyed. We performed an excellent job, winning the league with four games remaining, which speaks much about the club."

Xavi's lineup did not surprise anyone, and Barcelona's first team took to the field with one aim in mind; the end was now in sight.

They produced an electrifying performance, one of their best this season, to secure victory and drop their city rivals to 19th, four points from safety with four games remaining.

Barcelona took the lead via Lewandowski, who finished from close range after a superb pass from Alejandro Balde.

The left-back scored the second goal, with Pedri sweeping a cross to the back post for him to pounce on.
