Athlete Faith Kipyegon has received recognition from President William Ruto for setting two world records in the Wanda Diamond League in Paris and the Florence Diamond League in Florence, Italy.

Kipyegon would receive a Ksh6 million residence, according to Ruto's announcement made in the Nairobi State residence.

She would also receive Ksh5 million in cash for breaking the 1,500 and 5,000 metres records.

“For every world record broken by a Kenyan, the government of Kenya is going to award Ksh5 million,” Ruto stated.

“She has won and broken two world records in 1,500 meters and 5,000 metres. The government of Kenya is going to award her Ksh5 million for one record and we are going to give her a house worth Ksh6 million,” Ruto added.

The new three-bedroom home for Kipyegon in Parklands, Nairobi, was constructed thanks to the Affordable Housing Program.

Ferdinand Omanyala, the 2023 100m African Champion, received Ksh2 million from Ruto at the same time for leading other runners in sprint contests.

The Head of State explained that prizes were given to honor athletes who excelled in many fields of the economy.

Rigathi Gachagua, the vice president, on the other hand, counseled athletes to make good investments. He claimed that despite earning millions of dollars, the government was worried about athletes going into poverty.

Gachagua volunteered to teach some of the athletes about investing.

“Faith, should you have a problem knowing how exactly you can invest in whatever you are going to earn, I’m available. I’m a very prudent businessman. I can guide you around to make sure that you succeed,” Gachagua stated.

Along with educating kids about money management, Ruto and his deputy promised to direct more funding to sports, which they said was essential for inspiring other gifted Kenyans.

Ruto also ordered the issuance of diplomatic passports to athletes who excel in facilitating travel.

The emotional athlete said she will grant her father's dream by getting him a car after accepting the honor.
