Benjamin Mendy Joins Ligue 1 Team After Rape Clearance Benjamin Mendy, a former defender for Manchester City, has joined Ligue 1 team Lorient five days after receiving a rape clearance.

The 29-year-old left-back has agreed to a two-year contract with the French team after his City contract expired in the summer.

At Chester Crown Court on Friday, he was found not guilty of raping one lady and trying to rape another.

That came after Mendy was acquitted of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault during a trial in January.

When City paid Monaco £52 million to purchase the France back in 2017, Mendy became the most expensive defender in the world.

A member of the France team that won the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he won the Premier League in his first season with City.

But he last participated in a professional game in August 2021, when he represented City against Tottenham Hotspur.

Later that month, Mendy was detained and held without bail for five months before her initial trial last August.
