Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partner were attacked and robbed at their Paris residence. According to police sources, the couple was targeted by multiple individuals and restrained at their apartment in the capital's eighth district.

They allegedly then made their way to a nearby motel. The pair was rushed to the hospital after hotel personnel raised the alarm.

"An investigation has been opened on charges of armed robbery in an organised gang and aggravated violence following the events that took place overnight at Mr Donnarumma's place," a spokesperson for Paris prosecutor's office told the BBC.

Unverified allegations on the news website Actu17 claim that the attackers made off with luxury leather goods, watches, and jewelry valued up to €500,000 (£430,000).

According to sources, the footballer suffered just minor injuries, while his partner, model Alessia Elefante, escaped uninjured.

According to the prosecutor's office, an inquiry has been launched by France's specialized BRB police unit, which targets armed robberies and burglaries.

The 24-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has lived in Paris for two years, was scheduled to arrive at Paris St. Germain's training facility later on Friday before the team's first preseason friendly against Le Havre and a trip to Japan and South Korea.

Although gangs have targeted other PSG footballers before, most of those attacks happened when the victim wasn't at home.
