Faith Kipyegon continued her incredible season by breaking the women's mile world record at the Monaco Diamond League event on Friday, her third of the year.
The double Olympic champion ran 4:07.64, over five seconds faster than her long-time rival Sifan Hassan's previous mile record, 4:12.33, set on the same track in 2019.
Ciara Mageean finished second in 4:14.58, an Irish record that puts her seventh on the global all-time list, while Ethiopia's Freweyni Hailu finished third in 4:14.79.

Kipyegon's incredible streak follows a spectacular eight-day period in early June when she set world records in the 1500m and 5,000m.
The reigning world champion raced 3:49.11 to break the world record in the women's 1,500m at the Florence Diamond League on June 2.
The following week, she broke the world 5,000-meter record at the Paris Diamond League, defeating Ethiopian world record-holder Letesenbet Gidey.
In early June, Kipyegon, 29, established world records in the 1500m and 5,000m over eight days.
