KCB head coach Bernard Mwalala believes striker Derrick Otanga will win the Golden Boot again after the Bankers won their season opener against AFC Leopards on Friday at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.

As KCB made a victorious start to the top division competition, Otanga came on as a replacement and scored the lone goal.

Mwalala feels the striker can reproduce his goal-scoring form from 2021/2022 when he scored 16 goals and won the Golden Boot.

"He is a top player who puts in a lot of effort in training." He's in terrific shape right now, and if he stays fit, he'll be able to score many goals and help the club win many games. "I am pleased with his strong start to the season," Mwalala stated.

Mwalala complimented his team's tenacity during the game, guaranteeing a title run this season.

"I am pleased with the team's progress thus far," Mwalala said. "There are areas that I believe we need to improve, particularly our attack, which is something we will work on in the coming fixtures, but we want to fight for the title because we are a good team."

With the league on a two-week break for international football, the former Ulinzi Stars head coach believes he will use the time to hone his squad with all his available players.

"The break will not affect the team's momentum; in fact, we will use it to sharpen different areas that I feel need improvement, but overall, the win is a good start to the campaign," the coach said to Citizen Digital.

On September 17, the Bankers will face the Kariobangi Sharks.
