Former Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has inked a one-year deal with the Belgian team Anderlecht. The 36-year-old became a free agent after his departure from Nice was mutually agreed upon last week, enabling him to join a new club even outside the regular transfer window.

“Anderlecht is just a massive club,” said the Denmark goalkeeper.

“Former team-mates from different places have always talked so highly and warmly of this place. It was something I really wanted to become part of.”

During the previous season, Schmeichel played in 46 matches across all competitions for Nice, having made a move to the Ligue 1 club on a free transfer from Leicester.

With 93 international caps to his name, the goalkeeper accumulated an impressive 479 appearances over the course of 11 years with the Foxes. During this remarkable stint, he secured victories in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Community Shield.
