In the Euro 2024 Group H qualifier on Thursday, Denmark's playmaker Christian Eriksen delivered a passing masterclass, orchestrating three of his team's goals in their comfortable 4-0 victory over San Marino.
Eriksen had an opportunity to open the scoring from the penalty spot 20 minutes into the game, but VAR reversed the decision. Nevertheless, the Danes quickly took the lead thanks to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The combative midfielder allowed a clever pass from Jonas Wind to run across his body before rattling home a right-footed shot to open the scoring in the 26th minute.
Just two minutes later, Eriksen dazzled the San Marino defense with a brilliant backheel pass, setting up Joakim Maehle for a smooth finish past the keeper.
In his remarkable 123rd appearance for Denmark, Eriksen secured his second assist in the 40th minute, setting up striker Wind for a goal. His third assist occurred in second-half stoppage time, as substitute Yussuf Poulsen managed a delicate touch to redirect a hopeful cross, ultimately sealing the victory.
With this triumph, Denmark advances to second place in the group with a total of 10 points from five games. They are now just two points behind the group leaders, Finland, and hold an advantage over third-placed Slovenia based on goal difference.
