The team at the bottom of Ligue 1, Lyon, has decided to part ways with their manager, Laurent Blanc, leading to his dismissal.
A 4-1 home defeat by Blanc’s former club Paris St-Germain proved to be his final match in charge of the club, who said Blanc left by “mutual agreement”.
Lyon has accumulated just one point from their first four games of the season, resulting in the worst goal difference in Ligue 1.
In the interim, technical director Jean-Francois Vulliez, who is responsible for overseeing Lyon's esteemed academy, will take charge of the first team.
Laurent Blanc, aged 57, took over as Lyon's manager in October. However, the club finished the previous season in seventh place, missing out on the European spots in Ligue 1.
It was his first managerial role in France since leaving PSG after the 2015-16 season, although Blanc had managed Al Rayyan in Qatar in the interim.
Results were disappointing and Blanc’s average of 1.53 points per game is the worst of any permanent Lyon manager of the past 25 years aside from Sylvinho, who lasted just nine league matches.
Blanc has won one Ligue 1 championship while leading Bordeaux and three while leading PSG.
Graham Potter, a 48-year-old former manager of Brighton and Chelsea, reportedly declined the Lyon position last week.
Another manager that has a close connection to the opening is Gennaro Gattuso, 45, who left his last position as Valencia's manager in January.
During Blanc's leadership, the club was successfully taken over by American billionaire John Textor, who also owns interests in Crystal Palace.
