Three-time women's 1500m World Champion, Faith Kipyegon, and Africa's fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, are prominent among the esteemed Kenyan athletes listed to compete in the forthcoming Wanda Diamond League Final scheduled for 16-17 September in Eugene, USA.

The two-day spectacle at Hayward Field holds the promise of crowning all 32 of the 2023 Wanda Diamond League champions, concluding a remarkable five months of top-tier competition spanning four continents.

For athletes like Kipyegon, who currently holds the defending champion title, this event offers an invaluable opportunity to cap off an already historic season with yet another prestigious global accolade.

Kipyegon is fresh from making history in Budapest where she ousted Ethiopia's Diribe Welteji and Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands to become the first woman in history to win three World 1500m titles.

By winning the 5000m race as well, the double Olympic champion became the first woman in history to do the 1500-5000m double.

The performances in Budapest followed a splendid season that had seen the 29-year-old athlete break the 1500m record, the 5000m record and the mile record all within two months.

For Omanyala, the Prefontaine Classic will present a chance for redemption when he lines up in the men's 100m race.

The reigning Commonwealth champion, who was bidding to become the first African to medal in a World Championship event, ended up finishing a disappointing seventh place in the race won by Noah Lyles who clocked 9.83s ahead of Botswana talent Letsile Tebogo and Great Britain's Zharnel Hughes.

Two-lap specialist Mary Moraa who also bagged her maiden World title in Budapest will also be looking to back that win with a similar performance in USA as she seeks to defend her Diamond League title.

Other notable names from Kenya will include fast-rising Emmanuel Wanyonyi, 5000m Diamond League defending champion Beatrice Chebet and 3000 steeplechase world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech.

Elsewhere, Norwegian superstar Jakob Ingebrigtsen will be out to bounce back from disappointment at the World Athletics Championships.

The likes of Femke Bol and Mondo Duplantis will be hoping to defend their Diamond League titles, while big names such as Sha'Carri Richardson are aiming for a first-ever Diamond Trophy.
